Corica hints at new signing involvement in Semi

Steve Corica has hinted at when we are likely to see the new signings in action ahead of the Australia Cup Semi Final at AAMI Park against Melbourne City.

In the last fortnight, the Sky Blues have announced the arrival of Fabio Gomes, Gabriel Lacerda and Jordan Courtney-Perkins and all are in line to make their debuts on Sunday afternoon.

While these cup matches provide overall sharpness for the squad as a whole, it also allows the new recruits to understand the way of thinking and bed their way into the squad.

And on Sunday afternoon, Steve Corica won’t be taking that opportunity lightly.

“The cup is very important for us. We are getting great competitive games and a trophy is up for grabs.

“We have a few new players coming in so the games help them and obviously it’s great to win a trophy early on in the season,” Corica said.

And with another week on the training field in the bag, the Head Coach is excited about the prospect of making the club’s first Australia Cup/FFA Final since 2018 when they dispatched the Western Sydney Wanderers in the Semi.

“The training has been really good since having the full squad available for the cup game and I am excited to see the new boys come in.

“The way that we have been playing lately is really exciting,” he said.

However, Corica has coached too many matches in Australia to underestimate the challenge that Isuzu UTE A-League Premiers Melbourne City will prove.

“We know they’re a good team,” he said.

“They’ve got a lot of new faces in the squad so it may take them a little bit of time to gel together.

“I watched their ACL game against the Japanese side [Ventforet] Kofu on Wednesday and they did well to get a point out of it, so Sunday is going to be a good game.”

Finally, he provided an update on whether we are likely to see the new recruits on the pitch at AAMI Park come Sunday afternoon.

“They’re all fit and raring to go.

“I think at some stage you will see them, but I can’t give too much away but I’m pretty sure they will be involved,” he concluded.
