Sydney FC’s Matildas star Cortnee Vine is a chance to play in Sunday evening’s Liberty A-League semi-final clash, despite limping out of Australia’s history making 2-0 win over England in London yesterday morning.
The 25-year old went down with what appeared to be a calf problem, before being helped to the side of the field by medical staff at Brentford’s Community Stadium.
Vine headed for England, alongside goalkeeper Jada Whyman, the morning after lifting a third straight Premiers Plate and will only arrive back in Australia tonight ahead of a return to training tomorrow.
Head Coach Ante Juric was optimistic Vine would be available.
“It seems like it was more precautionary when she came off than anything,” he said.
“It’s definitely better than we originally thought having spoken to a few people.
“We believe she is fit but we will see tomorrow when she arrives back at our training ground.”
The Sky Blues face Western United at Allianz Stadium (5.45pm kick off) bidding to reach a record extending sixth consecutive Grand Final.
And Juric is looking forward to the clash.
“It has been a couple of weeks since we played but that’s been a good reset for us since winning the Premiership,” he said.
“We have had a strong couple of weeks of training and been able to re-focus for a new challenge with the Finals. We are confident.”
The game is an Allianz Stadium Double Header with the Sky Blues’ Men taking on Perth Glory ahead of the semi final at 3pm with tickets available from Ticketek.
Standalone Women’s semi-final tickets can be bought after 4pm at the Allianz Stadium box office starting at $50 per family and $20 adult.
