Sydney FC stars Jack Rodwell and Corey Hollman have been suspended for two and one games respectively after the Football Association’s Match Review Panel handed down verdicts following their red cards in Friday night’s semi-final first leg.
The decision means Rodwell will miss both the semi-final second leg and the Grand Final should the Sky Blues make it through, while Hollman will miss only the semi-final second leg and be available for any subsequent game, including a potential Grand Final.
The MRP determined that Rodwell committed the offence of “Serious foul play (e.g. when challenging for the ball”. The minimum sanction for the offence is one (1) match, being the Mandatory Match Suspension. The MRP proposed that Rodwell serve a suspension of two (2) matches being the minimum sanction for the offence plus one (1) additional match.
Sydney FC and Rodwell have until 2pm tomorrow to decide whether to refer the matter to the independent Disciplinary and Ethics Committee.
In accordance with the Regulations, as Hollman was issued with an indirect Red Card, he is required to serve the Mandatory Match Suspension of one (1) match.
