While only a pre-season match on paper, Sydney FC youngster Christopher Naumoff is approaching Thursday night’s clash against Macarthur Rams with the same winning mentality he’d carry into any Hyundai A-League clash this season.
The Sky Blues take on the Rams for the fourth consecutive year at Campbelltown Sports Stadium (kick off 7:30pm), and Naumoff is expecting the same challenge he encountered in 2013, a game in which he scored, after missing last year’s match due to Young Socceroos commitments.
“Every time I play Macarthur they’ve been a great opponent for us,” he said.
“We play them each year and I think it will be a tough match. They’ll be quite fit being in their season but again a good challenge for us.
“Every game we play we want to win, regardless of if it’s a pre-season game or not, that’s definitely my mentality and I know that will be the mentality of the boys and staff.
“The most important thing will be that everybody gets through the game injury free. It’s mostly about getting the minutes into our legs and getting some game time ahead of the season.”
Sydney FC are two weeks into their pre-season routine, and with the Sky Blues first competitive fixture against Sorrento FC in the Westfield FFA Cup only one week away Naumoff has praised the tough schedule set by Head of Strength and Conditioning Andrew Clark to date.
“Anyone will tell you that pre-season is tough as it has been, but everyone is getting through it,” he said.
“It’s good to get to know the new bunch of boys we’ve got this year too, which has been great.
“Everyone that’s been on the pitch and is able to train, is ready for the game. The main purpose is getting more minutes in our legs and getting us ready for the FFA Cup game next week and for the season ahead.”
Sydney FC take on Macarthur Rams at Campbelltown Sports Stadium on Thursday night (kick off 7:30pm). Tickets can be purchased at the gate, priced at $10 for Adults and $5 for Chilrden/Concessions.
