Sydney FC’s Liberty A-League star Rachel Lowe has expressed her delight after picking up the first Dolan Warren Award of her career.
The midfielder won the Liberty A-League’s Goal of the Season for her sensational strike against Wellington Phoenix in the Sky Blues 5-0 win in Wollongong in December.
It was the first of four goals in total last season for the midfielder but the award still came as a shock.
“I was pretty surprised to be honest, I’m a midfielder so I’m not really used to scoring goals but when I hit it, I knew it was going to be a pretty nice strike, so happy to be winning this award,” she said.
“It was my first start of the season so it relaxed me and took the nerves away. It was good timing to score because it was pretty early on.”
The 21-year old will be back in Sky Blue this season having signed a two year deal at the start of last year.
And after a highly successful campaign in which the Sky Blues completed back-to-back Premierships and reached the Grand Final, the 22 cap Young Matilda is hoping to go one better and win the double off the back of her award.
“For me it’s a nice accolade to get and gives me confidence I’m doing well, but it’s the same with the team so we keep moving forward and try to win the Grand Final next time.”
