Hot off the heels of a Man of The Match performance against Perth Glory last Saturday, Sydney FC midfielder Max Burgess’ says the Sky Blues are ready to prove their Championship credentials against joint ladder leaders Western United this weekend.
Steve Corica’s men head into the clash after two wins on the bounce against the Glory and AFC Champions League qualifiers Kaya F.C., and Burgess believes it’s the start of some good things to come.
“There’s definitely good spirits in training after a couple of wins, the boys are feeling good with good momentum and are really looking forward to the test this weekend.
“We’ve played them a couple of times now, they’ve been consistent all year and everyone is looking forward to getting out and keeping the form rolling.”
Burgess, who scored against his former club the last time they played the Sky Blues at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, is hoping to fire once more.
“I’m always keen to impact the game, and improve myself and parts of my game.
“I’m always picking up details from other players and coaches around me and working on my craft.
“However the main focus is picking up three points and maintaining our current run to put ourselves in a position where we can be as successful as possible at the end of the season.
“Although the schedule has been fluid, we are just focusing on each game at a time.
“Personally I’m positive and looking to get better every day.”
The Sky Blues will be without Kiwi forward Kosta Barbarouses who is away on international duty however they could welcome back Milos Ninkovic (hamstring) and Anthony Caceres (foot) who have sat out the last two games through injury.
