The Hyundai A-League champions also finished ranked 273rd in the world as the only Australian Team to make the listing, which is formulated by domestic cup and championship results as well as Club Competitions like Champions League and the Club World Championships.
Sydney FC-s ranking was based on its Hyundai A-League form, its Club World Championship results at Australia, Oceania and then FIFA Club World Championship stages.
During the 2005/06 season, Sydney FC played 34 competitive matches, winning 21, having seven draws and losing just six matches.
Liverpool FC (England) was ranked No. 1 club team following its FA Cup, English Premier League and Champions League matches, ahead of AC Milan (Italy) and Barcelona (Spain).
The No. 1 ranked Asian team was Al Ain, whom Sydney FC defeated 1-0 in a pre-season friendly last April in the United Arab Emirates.
The IFFHS list also ranked the Hyundai A-League as a tier three competition, out of a possible four.
Tier four competitions included the English Premier League, Serie A and the Spanish La Liga while the A-League was deemed of equal level to the Dutch and Portuguese first divisions. Norway and China were two examples of domestic club competitions ranked lower than the A-League.
