We want to win for the fans – Juric

Hear from Ante Juric prior to the clash with Brisbane Roar

Heading into the final seven matches of the season, Ante Juric has admitted that his side haven’t given up despite their current situation.

Mathematically they can still make the top six and make a late finals charge but the prospect is tough and requires other results to go their way.

Despite this, the goal remains clear.

“We still want to win 7 out of 7 for these last games for ourselves, for the shirt and for the fans because we feel we’ve let people down but we haven’t given up.

“Mathematically we can still make it [top six] but realistically we can’t so we are going to go out and try win every single game and finish on a high,” Juric said.

“We want to show the fans that we’re still here and we’re ready for this season but also next and starting fresh.”

The Sky Blues have had two weeks off without a match due to the FIFA International Break where a number of Juric’s side were in action for their countries.

Brianna Edwards was in Colombia with the Football Ferns while five were in Canberra with the Young Matildas at the PacificSports Aus Championship.

“The Young Matildas did very well but they all came back today and we have worked hard this week getting ready for Brisbane.

“We changed a bit tactically up front because we obviously need to score goals and I’m keen to have everyone back and ready for this weekend,” he continued.

“We have one or two coming back to training so I don’t think it will be enough for them to start or play so it looks likely that we will have similar bodies and even though the Young Matildas have had a big week, they’re young so they’ll be back and ready to play again.”

This Sunday, the Sky Blues will take on Brisbane Roar who flew out of the blocks at the beginning of the season but have stuttered in recent weeks with the loss of Matilda Sharn Freier for the rest of the campaign.

Going back through the history of the competition, these two sides have always been battling at the top.

“At my early days here at Sydney, this was the biggest game as it is state versus state.

“City and Victory have obviously come strong now but nothing changes that for us in how big this game is for us and they have done well this season.

“They are fighting to stay within the top six so it will be a tough game,” Juric concluded.
