Sydney FC midfielder Hana Lowry has been named in the Matildas squad for their upcoming matches against Brazil and Chinese Taipei.
The 21-year-old joined the Sky Blues this season from Perth Glory where she has put in a number of great performances in the Young Matildas and now earns her first senior call-up.
The Green and Gold will play four matches across the space of two weeks, playing Brazil and Chinese Taipei in Queensland and Victoria.
Lowry spoke to the press at Leichhardt Oval today ahead of Saturday’s Sydney Derby and highlighted her shock when she found out about the Matildas.
“It’s obviously a dream come true for me and I feel like I’ve been working toward this for a long time.
“I’m excited to go and take as much out of it as I can and just learn,” Lowry said.
“I was pretty surprised and wasn’t expecting it but this is something that I’ve been working towards for a long time so I am just really happy.”
This weekend, Lowry will be aiming to put in a strong performance in the Sydney Derby as the Sky Blues host their cross-town rivals in the first home match of the season.
After two disappointing losses in the first two rounds, this is their chance to turn it around.
“We are looking to bounce back from those two results in front of a nice home crowd and I think tomorrow is a perfect opportunity to do that.
“The first few games we haven’t been great but there’s no time to panic, we need to just focus on the next game,” she added.
“It’s always going to take a few games for everything to click but it’s definately starting to and I think we can show that tomorrow.”
This will be Lowry’s first experience of the Sydney Derby and her first experience of the Leichhardt Oval atmosphere on the positive side having visited the ground with Perth Glory last season.
“I’ve played here a few times on the other side and the Sydney crowd have always been incredible, so to be on that side now, I’m really excited for it.
“It will be so important for us to have a good crowd and good support behind us and I have seen the impact that the Sydney crowds have had on the girls the last few years.
“We’re really hoping that tomorrow will be another example of that and really help us get the result,” Lowry concluded.
