The World Cup dream is over for the Young Matildas at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.
They played three matches in the Group Stages and each 90 minutes they were unable to find a way past the opposition.
They exit at the group stage for the second consecutive edition of the tournament having experienced the same early heartbreak in the 2022 edition.
From a Sky Blue perspective Indiana Dos Santos was one of the best performers in the side and thought she had a goal in the opener against Colombia, however her joy was cut short as she was denied by the offside flag.
Shay Hollman and Amber Luchtmeijer also played a role in the tournament, with Luchtmeijer making her professional debut in the opening day loss to Colombia and Hollman starting two of the three games.
Maddie Caspers and Tahlia Franco didn’t make it onto the pitch during the tournament with Caspers picking up a lower limb injury which denied her game time.
They would ultimately lose 2-0 to each opponent, finishing bottom of the group, however they can take plenty of experience and learnings from their time in Colombia heading into the A-League Women’s season.
Congratulations to Indiana, Shay, Amber, Maddie and Tahlia on playing at a FIFA World Cup.
