Sydney FC Head Coach Graham Arnold has labelled tonight’s clash against the Newcastle Jets as a landmark occasion in the league, with top flight football heading south to Wollongong for the first time.

The Sky Blues boast a large supporter base in Wollongong, and carry a number of Illawarra products in the squad, and Arnold called for as many fans as possible to turn out at WIN Stadium for the first match of the New Year.

“It’s a ground breaking day today with the first A-League game ever , first competition game, in Wollongong,” Arnold said.

“Every game in the A-League is important and every game in the A-League is a tough challenge, we’ve got a big challenge in front of us.

“We’ve got a lot of supporters that live down south and hopefully they turn up in numbers to give us that support.

“We’re going out to win, there are no excuses, we have to go out and perform and we have an obligation to our wonderful supporter base of fighting for 90 minutes and performing.”
