Three Sydney FC Players Named In All Stars Fan Vote

Three Sydney FC players have been voted by fans to be part of the A-League All Stars squad to face Barcelona next Wednesday night.

Socceroos full back Rhyan Grant, midfield maestro Milos Ninkovic and joint Alex Tobin Award points leader Anthony Caceres are among the first 13 players who came top in the A-League supporters’ vote.

“It’s a great feeling to be voted in by the fans across the league and to know they appreciate you,” said Sky Blues’ midfielder Anthony Caceres.

“Barcelona are one of the clubs I’ve always admired, and for as long as I can remember they have had the greatest players in the world, so it will be a privilege to play against them.

“I think their midfielder Pedri is showing he can become a great player and he has a similar style to one of my heroes, Andres Iniesta.

“I’m looking forward to seeing up-close what he can do and I’m excited to get the chance to test myself against them.”

Sky Blues’ Player Of The Year contender Anthony Caceres is in line to face Barcelona in the A-League All Stars match next Wednesday night.

Further Sky Blues selections could take place with another 17 players to be selected by All Stars Head Coach Dwight Yorke (15 players) and APL Commissioner Greg O’Rourke (2 players) in the coming days.

The squad will then be culled once the Isuzu Ute Grand Finalists are known.

Special mention should be made of defender Rhyan Grant, the only player to be chosen for the All Stars in 2013 or 2014 and now once more in 2022 – testament to the right back’s longevity.

Sydney FC’s 2006 Championship winner Yorke will be assisted by current Sky Blues Assistant Coach Rob Stanton and the players will head into All-Stars camp this Sunday.
