Away Wins In The Last Six Sydney Derbies

This weekend’s Sydney Derby at Allianz Stadium is quickly approaching. The cross city rivals are tied 3 for 3 in the last six derbies with the away team walking away victorious each time, but will history repeat itself right before finals?

Round 19 2023/2024 Commbank Stadium: WSW 1 – SYD FC 4

In their most recent match-up, the Sky Blues visited rival territory for the 37th Sydney Derby. Sydney FC dominated the match, keeping the Wanderers out of their attacking third. Co-skipper Rhyan Grant was first to draw blood, scoring in the opening minutes. Grant’s goal was shortly followed by a successful penalty taken by Fabio Gomes after a handball call against WSW. Mak was next to capitalise and Gomes notched his second goal and Sydney FC’s fourth for the match. WSW were not entirely silenced following a last-minute attempt from young gun Zac Sapsford. Sapsford’s strike was on target, scraping past goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne. However, it deflected off the boot of Jake Girdwood-Reich resulting in an own goal.
