Today we’re looking at the solid defensive stats of centre back Ryan McGowan, new to the Sky Blues for the 2019/20 season.
McGowan’s performances for the Sky Blues in the Hyundai A-League got off to the perfect start as the defender scored his first ever Sydney FC goal, and the winner, in our Round 1 triumph away against Adelaide United.
In defence, McGowan has proved solid, playing every minute of every game so far this season for the club.
The former Socceroo has made 79 clearances, 19 blocks and nine interceptions, while also completing 15 of his 22 attempted tackles.
Rarely beaten, McGowan has only lost 45 of his 119 duels and 24 of his 66 aerial duels, forming a solid partnership with Sydney FC Captain Alex Wilkinson at the heart of Head Coach Steve Corica’s backline.
In distribution, McGowan as a 90.3% pass success rate and has also played four key passes, with the Adelaide born defender seen often marauding out of defence to launch attacks beyond halfway.
