Six Sydney FC players have been selected in the CommBank Junior Matildas squad for the historic FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2026™, with the Sky Blues making up more than a quarter of Australia’s squad.
Claire Corbett, Alyse Oppedisano, Willa Pearson, Abbie Puckett, Rubi Sullivan and Jada Taylor have all been named in Head Coach Michael Cooper’s 21-player squad for Australia’s first-ever FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup appearance.
The six Sky Blues represent 28.6 per cent of the squad, highlighting the strength of Sydney FC’s pathway and the continued development of the next generation of Sky Blue talent.
The historic tournament will be held in Morocco from 17 October to 7 November, with Australia drawn in Group F alongside Spain, Mexico and Chile.
For the six Sydney FC youngsters, it will be an opportunity to represent their country on the biggest stage of their young careers.
The selection continues a strong year for the players, who have all progressed through Sydney FC’s Female Development Squad and earned recognition at international level.
Australia secured its place at the tournament by reaching the semi-finals of the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup in China earlier this year, guaranteeing a historic first qualification for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
Now, the Junior Matildas will look to make their mark on the world stage.
The Junior Matildas will open their World Cup campaign against Chile on 20 October (AEDT) before facing Spain on 23 October and Mexico on 26 October.
The tournament will see Australia test itself against some of the world’s leading youth football nations, with the players gaining invaluable experience at a major international tournament.
For Sydney FC, having six players selected for Australia’s inaugural FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup squad is another significant milestone for the Club’s Academy pathway.
The Sky Blues will now turn their attention to Morocco, where six of our own will have the chance to make history in Sky Blue and green and gold.
