Teenage Striker Wood Renews Deal

Sydney FC’s teenage striker Patrick Wood has renewed his contract with the Sky Blues for the Isuzu-Ute A-League 2022-23 season.

The 19-year old has impressed in a number of first team appearances since making his debut against Shanghai SIPG in the AFC Champions League 2020.

Wood has scored ten goals for the club in his 39 appearances, mostly from the bench, and continues to be lethal in the National Premier League NSW Men’s One competition.

Having just returned from representing Australia in Uzbekistan at the AFC U23 Asian Cup, Wood says he’s looking forward to making an impact next season.

“It’s going to be a massive season for us and I can’t wait to get back scoring goals,” he said.

“I feel I’m developing with every game and there’s no better place to continue that learning than at Sydney FC.

“Playing at the new Allianz Stadium is going to be electric and it will take my game to the next level.”

Patrick Wood celebrates his goal against Macarthur FC at Campbelltown Stadium on Boxing Day.

Head Coach Steve Corica welcomed Wood’s re-signing.

“Pat has the wonderful ability to find the back of the net, he’s direct and knows how to be in the right place at the right time,” he said.

“The more he continues to develop that ability and the rest of his game, the more goals he will score and he will be an extremely valuable player for us.

“I’m excited to see what he can achieve for the club and himself in the next year.”

Wood joined the Sky Blues Academy in the inaugural season in 2016 from Manly United and Collaroy Strikers before that.
