Tavares Focussed On 90 Minute Performance

With the opportunity to leapfrog Brisbane Roar at the end of tomorrow night’s game, Mickael Tavares has stressed the importance of turning Sydney FC’s 80 minute performance against Melbourne Victory into 90.

Tavares said he was confident of turning in a good performance in Saturday night’s encounter at Allianz Stadium against what he expects to be a different Roar outfit from the one that has shipped eight goals in their previous two matches.

“We are a little bit disappointed because we stuck to the plan and everything was good for 80 minutes then we conceded the goal but this was last week,” Tavares said.

“Tomorrow is another game and I’m pretty confident we are going to perform good.

“It’s very important for the confidence [to keep picking up points], this game is very important and we really need the three points.

“Every game is different so we don’t really look at the last two weeks, they were missing some players at the Olyroos, so I think tomorrow will be another Brisbane team.

“This year I think we have a strong team,” he continued.

“We are working every week to create more chances and I’m pretty confident it will come.”

Setting his sights to the AFC Champions League that commences in February, Tavares said it was a competition everyone aspires to play in, with the Sky Blues’ foreign contingent of the squad still to be confirmed.

“Champions League, for football players everywhere, you want to play this competition,” he said.

“The coach will have to make the decision soon but we have to be the best to be in the squad.

“It’s difficult because when you play Champions League you don’t have much of a break before the next game so physically you have to be fit, and I think with the travel it will be difficult also, but when you’re a football player you play for this so you have to do what you have to do.

“We have some good players in the midfield, the competition is very high. Every time one of us is playing with the chance to start you try to do your best to stay in the first eleven.”
