44′ | EDWARDS DENIES THE MATILDA – Bri Edwards stands tall and parries away Tameka Yallop’s effort toward goal.

45+3′ | BLISSETT OPENS THE SCORING – Yallop whips a ball into the area and it falls to Chelsea Blissett who pushes one toward goal and it deflects in off the post.

What They Said – Ante Juric

“We are disappointed in the result, although I am pleased with the desire of the team throughout the game.

“The team has not gelled completely yet, which may take a few games. In saying this we still need to work out ways to get the points in the meantime.

“I was extremely pleased with our defence and we again will be hard to break down this year.

“In attack we need to begin to create more goal scoring opportunities, which has been limited in the first two games.

“With this we will continue to work hard on our over all fluency in possession at training and on our attacking action’s as a team.”

Match Report

Sydney FC have fallen to defeat in Brisbane with a first half stoppage time goal from Chelsea Blissett the difference in the Saturday afternoon sunshine.

The Sky Blues will rue two decisions that were awarded free-kicks right on the edge of the box with replays potentially indicating it could have been inside, however they failed to capitalise on their chances at goal and were ultimately punished.

Mackenzie Hawkesby on the ball

It was a very tight and tense opening with both teams laying down plenty of early markers in the challenges but failing to carve out a clear cut opportunity.

The tackles continued to fly in from each side and the defensive performances outshone the attacking with the best chance prior to the mandatory drinks break falling to Jordan Thompson who met a Hana Lowry free-kick but it was no challenge for Olivia Sekany in the Roar net.

The tactical chat during the break sparked the game into life and Millie Farrow was released in behind with a great ball over the top from Mackenzie Hawkesby but the out-rushing keeper managed to smother the attempted lob.

After Bri Edwards stood tall with a strong one on one save against Matilda Tameka Yallop, she was breached moments later after Yallop’s free-kick fell kindly in the box.

Chelsea Blissett was on hand to lash the loose ball toward goal and Hana Lowry on the line was unable to deflect it around the post and instead could only help it in off the up-right.

In the second half, Sydney were unlucky not to be awarded a penalty when Shea Connors was up-ended right on the edge of the box, however the referee said free-kick and the Sky Blues were unable to do anything from the wide area.

Jordan Thompson partnered Nat Tobin in defence

As the half wore on, Tameka Yallop continued to influence the match and had a few chances from range that had Edwards worried however they both missed the target.

Despite both teams making changes, Sydney FC were unable to create a clear cut chance with Shea Connor’s attempt from distance the only attempt to trouble Sekany.

Sydney will now look to change things up ahead of their first home match of the season next Saturday afternoon at Leichhardt Oval when they play in the Sydney Derby.
