Sydney FC’s players have backed up from their 3-1 defeat of Northern Fury FC yesterday with a visit to the children’s ward of the Townsville Hospital this morning.

As with their regular monthly visits to hospitals in Sydney, Sky Blues players George Timetheou, Dylan Caton, Aaron Calver and Themba Muata-Marlow spent time helping to put smiles on the faces of some of the youngsters staying on the ward.

“We’ve been trying to help take their minds off life in hospital,” said Canberra born defender Timetheou.

“We’ve been asking them how old they were, what school they go to, what sports they enjoy and subjects at school,” he continued.

“They were very happy to see us and weren’t shy at all, expressing what they wanted to.  It was good for them and good for us.”

Sam Pascoe from Townsville Hospital was delighted by the visit and the response the players received.

“A huge thanks to the guys for taking the time out today to visit the kids on the ward.  It certainly brought a smile to some very deserving faces,” she said.

The Sky Blues have a number of other engagements throughout the week of the Wingate Townsville Football Cup including school and local football club visits, backing up from their regular community schedule each week in Sydney.
