Sydney FC have moved joint top of the Liberty A-League with a 3-0 victory over Wellington Phoenix with goals from Cortnee Vine, Charlie Rule and Mackenzie Hawkesby.

Moments That Mattered: 

VINE GOAL – 24’ – Vine wins the ball from a throw in on the right hand side and speedily drives towards goal.    She looks for a cutback but makes the decision to roll the ball into the far corner of the net.

IBINI CHANCE – 38’ – Ibini races forward beyond the defence and drives a right foot shot narrowly wide.

RULE GOAL – 53’ – Ibini’s cross from the left takes a deflection and into the path of Rule who finishes from two yards.

VINE CHANCE – 65’ – Vine is played into the box, in behind the Phoenix defence. She tries to chip Alfeld but the goalkeeper does well to push the ball behind for a corner.

HAWKESBY GOAL – 66’ – Ibini wins the ball in the Phoenix half, gives it to Siemsen who plays it back to Ibini and the winger crosses to Hawkesby to apply a fabulous finish.

ROJAS CHANCE – 88’- Maria Rojas gets to the byline and does a couple of neat turns to fashion a shooting chance but it’s saved at the post by the keeper’s legs.

Mackenzie Hawkesby scores the Sky Blues third goal

Sydney FC has joined Melbourne Victory back at the top of the Liberty A-League ladder after a confident 3-0 win over new club Wellington Phoenix.

Cortnee Vine gave the Sky Blues the lead in 24 minutes with an excellent solo run and shot before Charlie Rule scored her maiden Liberty A-League goal finishing off Princess Ibini’s deflected cross.

Vine had an excellent chance to increase the lead when she tried to chip the keeper but it was well saved before Mackenzie Hawkesby delivered a sublime finish from an Ibini cutback to make it three and secure the win.

What They Said: Ante Juric: “I don’t think it was our best game but we are gradually getting there.

“Like last week we played in patches, when we did play well in patches we looked very good but I still think we are way off, however it’s nice to win.

“We’ve still go enormous growth left in us.”
