Sydney FC Matildas Midfielder Out For Season

Sydney FC midfielder Hana Lowry has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after rupturing her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during the team’s 1-1 draw against Melbourne City at Jubilee Stadium on Sunday.

The devastating injury has not only sidelined Lowry from club duties but also delayed her recent rise to the Matildas squad, a milestone achievement in her burgeoning career.

Head Coach Ante Juric expressed his heartbreak for the talented 21-year-old, who has been a key figure for Sydney FC this season.

“We’re all absolutely devastated for Hana,” said Juric.

“She’s been incredible for us this season and was just starting to show her full potential.

“Being selected for the Matildas recently was a testament to her hard work and talent.

“To see her season cut short like this is truly heartbreaking but Hana is strong, and we’ll do everything in our power to support her recovery.”

Sydney FC has assured that Lowry, who has another season on her contract with the Sky Blues, will receive the best possible medical care and will be closely monitored by the club’s medical staff.

Hana was recently named in the Matildas squad for this week and next week’s friendly fixtures but will now miss them.

The aim is to ensure a comprehensive rehabilitation process that sets her up for a successful return to football next season.

The Young Matilda remained positive despite the setback, sharing her determination to come back stronger.

“This isn’t how I wanted my season to go, but I’m taking it as a challenge to grow both mentally and physically,” Lowry said.

“The support from my teammates, coaches, and the whole Sydney FC family has been overwhelming, and it’s already keeping me focused on what’s ahead.

“I’ve really loved every minute of playing for Sydney FC, even though it has only been for a few games, and I can’t wait to get back.”

Lowry signed from Perth Glory this season and is in the first of a two year deal.

Lowry also highlighted the inspiration she’s drawing from her teammates, particularly Captain Nat Tobin, who recently returned from an ACL injury, and Kirsty Fenton, who is also on her own recovery journey.

“Nat has been incredible, both as a leader and someone who understands exactly what I’m going through,” Lowry added.

“She’s shown me what’s possible with hard work and resilience. Kirsty, too, has been a great support, and I know we’ll be leaning on each other during our rehabs.”

Captain Nat Tobin shared her admiration for Lowry’s attitude in the wake of the injury.

“Hana’s a fighter, no doubt about it,” Captain Tobin said.

“I’ve been in her shoes, and I know how tough it can be, but I also know how much stronger you come out the other side.

“We’re all here for her every step of the way.”

Captain Nat Tobin suffered her own knee injury last season but has come back stronger.

Juric also spoke about the unity within the team and how they’re rallying around Lowry.

“This team is like a family, and Hana is such an integral part of that.

“Everyone, from the players to the staff, is behind her 100% to ensure she is going to come back stronger.”

Lowry’s family had travelled from Perth for Sunday’s game, and her mother has remained in Sydney with her while she prepares for surgery.
