Hyundai A-League Champions Sydney FC has confirmed its first pre-season fixtures ahead of their title-defending 2019/20 season.
Preparation for that defence is a firm focus for the squad, however the Sky Blues’ pre-season matches provide an opportunity to promote the development of the squad’s junior players as well.
It means proceeds for all of Sydney FC’s home pre-season friendlies (ALL tickets are just $5) will go to the Sydney FC Foundation, which aims to help the development of junior footballers within the Sydney FC Junior Academy.
Sydney FC will open their account against NPL NSW Men’s 3 side Dunbar Rovers on Thursday 18th July, kicking off at 7:30pm AEST at Leichhardt Oval.
A clash against NPL NSW Men’s 2 side St George City FA follows on Tuesday 23rd July at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, before Head Coach Steve Corica’s charges travel to China for a huge encounter against French giants Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in Suzhou on Tuesday 30th July, kick off 10pm AEST.
Competitive football returns at the start of August as the Sky Blues kick off their FFA Cup campaign at home against Brisbane Roar at Leichhardt Oval on Wednesday 7th August, at 7.30pm.
More home pre-season friendlies will be announced following that pending progression in the FFA Cup competition.
Sydney FC Head Coach Steve Corica said he was excited at the range of games coming up.
“It’s important to get pre-season off on the right foot, and I believe these games will hold us in good stead ahead of our Championship defence,” he said.
“These games will allow us to quickly build fitness and get plenty of match minutes into the legs of the boys.
“They will provide the perfect platform from which I can select my starting line-up for the first game of the season.
“I’m hugely excited at the array of matches we have ahead of us, including the one against world class opposition in PSG.
“We’ll also be looking to get our FFA Cup campaign off to a winning start, with a fourth straight Final firmly in our sights.”
Tickets for all Sydney FC’s home pre-season friendlies will be available at the gate.
Sydney FC will also make the trip to Dubbo later in pre-season when they take on Newcastle Jets at the Apex Oval on Saturday 21st September at 3pm.
