Sydney FC have completed the signing of goalkeeper Claire Coelho ahead of the Sky Blues trip to face Perth Glory in the Westfield W-League semi-final on Saturday.
The shot-stopper joins on an injury replacement contract with medical advice ruling regular goalkeeper Sham Khamis out of the match, after she suffered concussion in Sydney FC’s final game of the season in Adelaide last weekend.
20-year-old Coelho has spent the last four seasons with the Newcastle Jets and goes straight into the Sky Blues squad which flew to Western Australia today.
“Claire is a very good goalkeeper and I expect her to be able to do an excellent job for the club,” said Head Coach Dan Barrett.
“It’s unfortunate for Sham that she has been ruled out as she has been outstanding for us this year, but in Claire and Sarah Easthope, we have two fantastic keepers who can step in and take us into the Grand Final,” he continued.
“Our girls have had a fabulous season having made the Finals Series for a record ninth time, and I expect to be playing in our 5th Grand Final next weekend.”
Coelho will wear the number 22 shirt for the Sky Blues.
