Sydney FC 3 (McCaskill 26’, 90’+4’, Ibini 77’) def. Newcastle Jets 1 (Copus-Brown 82’)
Sydney FC have put themselves back in Finals contention after a 3-1 win over Newcastle Jets at Jubilee Stadium thanks to goals from Savannah McCaskill and Princess Ibini.
Moments That Mattered:
1. Colaprico Chance – 12’ – A header clearance from a left wing cross falls to Colaprico on the right foot volley and is brilliantly saved down low by Ekerstrom.
2. McCaskill Goal – 26’ – Colaprico finds Foord wide on the right and her perfect cross his headed home beautifully by McCaskill from 10 yards.
3. Bledsloe Save – 36’ – Collister’s hooked shot on the edge of the box is palmed away by Bledsoe in the Sydney FC goal.
4. McCaskill Off The Bar – 57’ – Another fantastic header from McCaskill but this time it comes back off the bar.
5. McCaskill Shot Saved – 58’ – McCaskill gets clear in the inside left channel and shoots but it’s brilliantly saved down low the keeper.
6. Ibini Goal – 77’ – Huerta crosses low from the left hand side into the path of Ibini who slots home from only two yards to double the lead.
7. Copus-Brown Goal – 82’ – Copus-Brown smashes the ball home from 25 yards into the top corner giving Bledsoe no chance.
8. Harrison Off The Line – 84’ – Harrison clears off the line from Andrews preserving the lead.
9. McCaskill Goal – 90’+4’ – McCaskill wraps it up for the Sky Blues as she turns and fires in across goal from inside the area following a great run from De Vanna.
A Savannah McCaskill masterclass and a Princess Ibini poacher’s goal has handed Sydney FC a 3-1 win over Newcastle Jets in hot conditions at Jubilee Stadium.
McCaskill struck first midway through the first half after a great cross from Caitlin Foord found the head of the United States international who powered home from close range.
The American nearly had a second after the break when her header crashed off the bar.
Eventually the Sky Blues did find a second to double the lead through Ibini who slide home a Huerta cross from close range.
The Jets pulled one back with a stunning long-range effort from Copus-Brown with eight minutes to go and the Sky Blues had to withstand some pressure in the final stages, before a fabulous turn and shot from McCaskill secured the tie in the final minute.
