Sotirio Signs Until Season’s End

Sydney FC has bolstered their attacking options with the signing of forward Jaushua Sotirio until the end of the season.

The 29-year-old forward, who can also operate on the wing, joins as a free agent after recently terminating his contract with Indian Super League side Kerala Blasters.

Sotirio’s arrival provides crucial cover in the forward line following the loan move of Pat Wood to Perth Glory.

A former Australian Under-23 representative, Sotirio brings a wealth of experience with over 180 appearances across the A-League, AFC Champions League, and Australia Cup.

Head Coach Ufuk Talay highlighted the forward’s versatility and attacking attributes.

“I know Jaushua very well from our time together at Wellington Phoenix,” Talay said.

“He’s a quick and pacy striker who can score goals and give opposition defences plenty of problems.

“His ability to play centrally or out wide gives us extra options up front, particularly with Pat Wood’s move to Perth.”

Sotirio had the most successful seasons of his career playing under Ufuk Talay at Wellington Phoenix

Talay also emphasized Sotirio’s value beyond the domestic league.

“Jaushua’s experience in the AFC Champions League will be an asset.

“He knows what it takes to perform on big stages and against Asian opposition, and his work rate and commitment will fit seamlessly into our squad.”

Looking ahead, Talay hinted at further activity in the transfer market.

“We’re continuing to explore opportunities to strengthen other areas of the team over the next month.

“We want to ensure we have the depth and quality needed to compete across all competitions for the remainder of the season.”

For Sotirio, the move represents an exciting new chapter.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for me,” Sotirio said.

“Sydney FC is the biggest club in the country, and I’m looking forward to playing alongside some of the best players in Australia.

“I hope to contribute with goals and assists and it’s a great chance for me to win silverware, with the current position we are in.”

The forward also reflected on his previous stint under Talay, which he considers the highlight of his career.

“I played my best football and scored the most goals of my career under Ufuk at Wellington.

“I really enjoy the way his teams play, and I’m excited to be working with him again.”

Sotirio goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s clash with Brisbane Roar at Allianz Stadium as a straight swap for Patrick Wood.
