Sydney FC has secured the services of Championship-winning defender Ben Garuccio for a further two seasons, with the experienced left-back signing a new contract that will keep him in Sky Blue until the end of the A-League 2027-28 season.
The 31-year-old enjoyed an outstanding first campaign at the club, playing a pivotal role in Sydney FC’s run to the 2025-26 A-League Grand Final while helping the Sky Blues boast the best defensive record in the competition, conceding fewer goals than any other side.
Garuccio also produced one of the defining moments of the season when he calmly converted the winning penalty in Sydney FC’s dramatic semi-final shootout victory away to the Newcastle Jets, sending the Sky Blues into the Grand Final.
The 31-year old left back believes Sydney FC is perfectly placed to enjoy even greater success over the coming years.
“I’m absolutely delighted to be extending my stay with Sydney FC,” Garuccio said.
“From the moment I arrived I’ve loved being part of this club. The players, staff, Members and supporters have made it a fantastic place to be, and I’m excited about what’s ahead.

“You can really see the direction the club is heading under Patrick Kisnorbo. The standards are incredibly high every day, there’s a clear vision for how we want to play, and everyone has bought into it.
“The quality and youthful energy we’ve got within this squad and the way we finished last season gives me enormous confidence that we can compete for multiple trophies over the next couple of years.
“We’ve built something really special here and I’m determined to help this club get back into the AFC Champions League and continue challenging for silverware.”

Sydney FC Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo welcomed the extension and believes Garuccio’s leadership and winning mentality will continue to be invaluable.
“Ben has had an outstanding season and we’re very pleased he’s committed his future to the club,” Kisnorbo said.
“He’s a player of real quality and experience who brings terrific leadership to our group both on and off the pitch.
“I’ve worked with Ben before and I know exactly what he offers. He’s someone who sets standards every day, drives those around him and has a winning mentality.
“He fully deserves this new contract because of the level of consistency he’s shown and the impact he’s had on the team.
“Importantly, Ben knows what it takes to win titles and those types of players are invaluable as we continue building a squad capable of challenging for every trophy available over the next two seasons.”
Garuccio made 24 appearances for Sydney FC during the 2025-26 campaign, scoring one goal and providing three assists in a debut season in Sky Blue.
