On another damp evening in the Harbour City the Hyundai A-League outfit went to the break with a narrow 1-nil lead at Cromer Park, but a ten minute blitz in the second half saw Sydney sprint away from its hosts to stretch its winning streak to six games.
The weather hasn-t been kind to the Sky Blues or their fans during the club-s current friendly campaign, and Vitezslav Lavicka-s men and more than 1,500 hardy supporters were greeted by the wettest night yet when they made the trip to Manly.
The heavy conditions made free flowing football difficult but Sydney made a strong start and claimed the opening goal from a set piece when Korean trialist, Sung Hwan Byun used the slippery surface to his advantage, sliding a free kick past the keeper in the 20th minute of the match.
After also finding the net in a trial at Cromer Park last season, former Manly junior, Chris Payne doubled the advantage against his old club when he scored mid way through the second stanza.
Some great lead up work from Rhyan Grant set the stage for the young striker and he was clinical in his finishing from close range, chesting an awkward ball home to take the lead to two.
Moments later the win was sealed for Sydney FC when Brendan Gan got in on the act. Given a rare opportunity to push forward, the 21-year old positioned himself perfectly on the far post and tapped home the Sky Blues- third after Kofi Danning-s effort was blocked by the Manly custodian.
The victory was already assured but Shannon Cole provided the exclamation point, adding his name to the scoresheet with a well taken free kick with around fifteen minutes remaining.
Boasting an undefeated record and a defence that is yet to concede a goal, Sydney FC-s next test will come when it lines up in a highly anticipated trial clash with State Premier League leader, Sydney United.
The match will be played at 7:30pm next Tuesday at Edensor Park-s Sydney United Sports Centre.
