Rhys Youlley is set to make his competitive debut for Sydney FC in their Australia Cup Round of 32 clash against Western United this evening.
The Sky Blues have played three pre-season friendlies up to this point and the new arrival has found the net on two occasions so far and on Tuesday night in Tarneit, he will be looking to continue his scoring form in a competition that he really enjoys.
“The boss has trusted me to play higher up this season and I think it brings out another side to my game.
“I can score goals and provide assists and hopefully we can continue that form into the Cup,” Youlley said.
“I think this competition is beautiful.”

“The last time I played in it with Macarthur I played in Darwin and then also in Adelaide against an NPL side and I think it’s good to play in different parts of the country and overall it’s such a unique competition,” he continued.

The Sky Blues will be looking to start this campaign on the front foot after missing out on finals and the number 36 believes that the intensity during pre-season has been beneficial for them.
“It’s been really fast and intense and the group that we have is really good and I believe we have a good side this year and will do well.
“Everyone in this Cup is going to be a challenge whether it’s NPL sides in season or A-League teams in pre-season and Western will be no different. We know the areas that we can exploit them and everyone in the side is pumped for this game,” Youlley continued.

Youlley is one of a number of new arrivals into the squad and last week, Al Hassan Toure & Paul Okon Jnr joined the ranks and Youlley revealed that he has crossed paths with them prior and thinks they have assimilated into the group really well.
“Paully [Okon Jnr] & Al Hassan [Toure] have settled in real well. Paully I played with at National Team and Al Hassan at Macarthur so the three of us have come in as the new boys and settled in quite well.

“When you play for a team like Sydney FC, you always have an expectation to win trophies no matter what they are and the belief is definitely there.
“We know we’ve got a good enough team to compete with anyone in the Cup and the belief is 100% there to go far and win this Cup,” he concluded.
