Sydney FC’s players have backed the new style of play being introduced by Head Coach Frank Farina and Rado Vidosic and say they are excited to be back in training.

The Sky Blues returned to the field a week ago and the players have taken well to the new regime, including their strength and conditioning work led by Anthony Crea.

Striker Mitch Mallia said: “It-s good to be back. I think you enjoy the first two weeks of holidays but then you just want to get back into it.

“It-s been great, everything is all football based, it-s not just long balls and we can-t kick it above waist height, so we-re looking at playing the game properly.”

Midfielder Peter Triantis also backed the new way of working on the training pitch.

“All of the coaching staff have been implementing a new philosophy and we-ve all got to adjust to it and it-s very exciting.

“The sessions have been good, very intense and it-s really what we want as players.”

Frontman Blake Powell is another who believes he is benefitting from the alterations.

“The change has been good, we-ve been working on a few things and the philosophy has changed a bit. Rado has really been keeping us on our toes.”

The weather hasn-t been quite what the players may have wanted but they are happy to deal with the wet and muddy conditions.

“I think we-d prefer somewhere in between this and the scorching hot Australian summer, but definitely the cold over the heat,” said Mallia.

“The ball moves a lot quicker. It-s not ideal in terms of injuries when you come out and it-s a bit cold, but we-re very lucky to be where we are as professional footballers so we can-t complain,” continued Triantis.

Striker Mallia is also confident of showing the Sydney fans what he can do this season.

“I feel great, I-m going to have a full pre-season under my belt and I-m feeling fresh and looking forward to having a better season than the last one,” he said.
