Sydney FC utility man Rhyan Grant believes the Sky Blues good recent record against Perth can give them confidence ahead of their trip to Western Australia.

The 21 year old is in his fifth season with the club and has seen eight wins, two draws and three defeats against the Glory, with the last loss coming in November 2009.

“It obviously gives us a little bit of confidence,” said Grant. “We always seem to do well against them and over there we don-t go too bad.

“It-s going to be a tough one but I think we-re up for it and I-m sure we-ll be ready.”

Despite their league position Sydney still have everything to play for, sitting four points outside the finals places with home games against the struggling Melbourne Heart and Wellington Phoenix to follow Perth.

“We-re only four points from the six [finals places] so we-re getting closer but the consistency is letting us down.

“Hopefully we can get to Perth and get a good result, and then with two home games I-m sure we-ll give it a good run.

The Sky Blues welcome back experienced internationals Alessandro Del Piero, Jason Culina and Ali Abbas, while promising young striker Joel Chianese returns from injury to help bolster the attacking options.

Meanwhile Grant is capable of filling any of the midfield or defensive roles against the Glory, after performing well in a number of positions so far this season.

“They call me ‘The Plug-, I just come in wherever,” he said. “It doesn-t bother me, I just like to be out there and giving my best. If I play at left back, right back, midfield then I-m happy to do so.

“I-ve been doing alright but the results haven-t been there so I can-t be too pleased.”

Sydney FC’s next home game will be a Finals Series six-pointer against the Melbourne Heart on Sunday 13th January. Tickets are available from Ticketek starting at just $25 for adults. Kick off is at 5pm. It should be an occasion to bring all the family.
