Sydney FC-s Westfield W-League Head Coach Alen Stajcic has said there is no room for complacency as the ladies prepare for their first match of the mobcast International Women-s Club Championship (IWCC) against NTV Beleza on Saturday (kick off 2:30pm AEDT).

The Sky Blues have had a storming start to their Westfield W-League title defence winning their first two games, scoring nine goals and conceding only one, however Stajcic was quick to point out that this tournament will be a whole other level.

“We’ve had good results in the W-league so far,” he said.

“Playing against a top team from a country which holds the World Cup in their hands means there can be no room for complacency or over confidence.

“It is a massive assignment to beat a top Japanese team on their home soil.”

The girls landed in Japan at midnight and Stajcic said their first day had been exceptional thus far.

“The first day has been great,” said Stajic.

“After 20 hours of travelling it was good to get a full night-s sleep in.

“We have recovered well, enjoyed a stroll through downtown Okayama and had excellent service by our hosts.”

Should Sydney FC emerge victorious from their first round clash, the Sky Blues will face European heavyweights Chelsea Ladies FC in the semi-final, however Stajcic is not getting ahead of himself and is taking the tournament one game at a time.

“We are definitely not thinking about Chelsea yet,” he said.

“This first game is an incredibly difficult assignment and will take 100% of our focus to overcome and be successful.

“We have prepared the same for this game as we do all others with the obvious additional difficulty of the travel.

“We have closely studied our opponents and sought to find ways to nullify their strengths and look at ways to maximise our own qualities to get on top.”
