Last Season Crucial To Me – Middleton

Sydney FC’s newly promoted central midfielder Lachlan Middleton believes his experience as a train-on with the Sky Blues A-League Men’s side last season has given him the grounding to get up to speed quickly, as he begins his professional career.

The 18-year-old Sydney FC Academy graduate joined a number of first team sessions in the second half of the 2023-24 campaign and says it will help as he prepares for his first competitive Cup game later this month.

“I want to adapt as quick as possible,” he said.

“I think the way we have been playing, especially at the end of last year has been really exciting.

“For me to be a part of training and then to watch the boys go out and play like that was great, and I’m looking forward to being a part of that this year.”

Middleton has been with the Sky Blues since the age of 13 and has supported the club for many years, so he was ecstatic to begin his first week as a professional.

“I’m over the moon, usually I don’t show my emotions too much but I’m really looking forward to getting going.

“I’ve always dreamt of being a professional footballer and to be at this club that I’ve grown up playing for it’s unreal.

“It kind of sounds strange to hear it but to actually live it is another thing.”

Sydney FC will take on Oakleigh Cannons in Melbourne on Tuesday 30th July in the Australia Cup Round of 32 (7.45pm).
