Sydney FC winger Joe Lolley is relishing the chance to take on Melbourne Victory for the third time as the Sky Blues aim to get back to winning ways at home.
Despite a defeat last weekend, Lolley is confident that his team is in good form and is hoping to replicate their performance that saw them walk away with a 2-1 victory at AAMI Park.
Both teams play a nice brand of football and amongst the fire and heat of a Big Blue, Lolley expects the quality to shine through.
“I think it’s a pretty good game from a football perspective. Both teams want to start from the back and play football and try and win the ball back as well,” Lolley said.
“It doesn’t matter what team they put out, we know what we’ve got to do and we need to go out with confidence.
“We need to play with heart, and we’ve got to get the right result,” the Englishman added.
“We’ve shown what we can do against them as I believe we put in two good performances against them and probably deserved more from the first game.”
Playing against Melbourne Victory for the third time this season is a unique opportunity for the former Nottingham Forest player, having played majority of his career in the English Championship where you play each team twice and only meet a third time if drawn against each other in cup competitions.
“I’m not used to playing the same team three times in a season, so it’s pretty cool that you get the opportunity to almost beat them over a three-game series I guess.
“On a Saturday night, under the lights, it’ll be a great game, and hopefully, one the fans are going to enjoy.”
Sydney FC’s home record hasn’t hit the heights they would have been hoping for and this Saturday brings the opportunity to turn those fortunes around against the team that beat them on their own turf at the start of the season.
“We enjoy playing at home. So it’s been frustrating not to give the fans something more to cheer about.
“With our recent results, it gives you confidence that we’ve certainly got the ability and capabilities to go and beat any team in the league. It’s just about putting that consistency together and doing it week in, week out,” he concluded.
Catch Joe Lolley and the rest of his Sydney FC team-mates in the Big Blue from Allianz Stadium when Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory meet for the 62nd time.
