Costa Sidelined For Lengthy Spell

Sydney FC Head Coach Ufuk Talay confirmed today that Brazilian superstar Douglas Costa will be sidelined for 6-8 weeks after sustaining a hamstring injury in the Sky Blues’ dramatic clash with Melbourne Victory last weekend.

The injury is a significant blow for Sydney FC, with Costa’s recent form a key part of the Sky Blues goalscoring of late.

Talay expressed disappointment at losing Costa but maintained optimism about the squad’s depth.

“It’s obviously a big loss for us to be without Douglas for an extended period. He’s been exceptional in creating chances and driving our attack,” Talay said.

“Injuries are part of the game, and it’s important we manage his recovery properly to ensure he returns stronger.”

The silver lining for Sydney FC fans is the return of Polish striker Patryk Klimala, who has been declared fit after recovering from a groin injury.

Klimala’s availability for this weekend’s Isuzu-UTE A-League clash against the Newcastle Jets provides a timely boost for Talay’s side.

“Patryk has worked hard to get back to full fitness, and we’re pleased to have him available again,” Talay said.

“His presence up front gives us another dynamic option, and I’m looking forward to seeing him back in action.”

Looking ahead to the match against the Jets, Talay emphasized the importance of focus and execution.

“The Jets are a competitive side and have shown they can be dangerous in transition,” he continued.

“For us, it’s about sticking to our game plan, staying disciplined, and capitalizing on the opportunities we create. We’ve had a solid week of preparation, and the players are ready for the challenge.”

Despite the challenges posed by Costa’s absence, Talay exuded confidence in the collective effort of his squad.

“This group has a lot of character and quality,” he said. “We’ve had setbacks before, and each time, the players have stepped up. I have no doubt they’ll do the same this weekend.”

It’s the Sky Blues first clash with the Newcastle Jets this season and the first of four clashes against the bottom four clubs, including home clashes against Perth Glory and Central Coast Mariners next week.
