Sydney FC Head Coach Steve Corica has praised new signing Adam Le Fondre following the Englishman’s first training sessions with the Sky Blues.

le Fondre hit the pitch on Saturday for his first run with his new teammates and Corica says he’s impressed by what’s on offer from his new number 9.

“He’s always playing off the shoulder and looking to get in behind and that’s something I like about him,” Corica said.

“Bobô was in the box scoring goals and that’s something he [Le Fondre] does well as well.”

Corica said Le Fondre’s prowess in front of goal would come down to settling in his new environment, and the Sky Blues’ boss is confident the former Reading hitman has the right qualities to succeed in the Hyundai A-League.

Following in the footsteps of Brazilian Bobô, Corica said Le Fondre is well aware of what the former striker did during his time in Sky Blue.

“He knows Bobô scored all those goals [last season], but he’s quite a confident lad, he knows he’ll score goals and he’s done that in the past,” Corica said.

“He’s got a good scoring record and for me it’s more about him fitting in with the team, the culture, the club, getting to know the players and being happy here.

“If he’s doing all that then he’ll score goals.”

Sydney FC kick off their Hyundai A-League campaign away against Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium on Friday 19 October (kick off 7:50pm AEST).
