Sydney FC Head Coach Steve Corica was ecstatic after his first Hyundai A-League #SydneyDerby win, in what was a brilliant 2-0 victory at the SCG.

In front of a crowd of over 30,000 people and the first football game at the historic ground in over 33 years, the Sky Blues were able to come away with a solid win off the back of goals from Adam Le Fondre and Captain Alex Brosque.

Corica was pleased with the pressure they were able to apply in the early stages, and the resilience when they were under pressure in the second half.

“The performance was very good; it’s a derby, we won 2-0 and kept a clean sheet,” he said.

“We defended very well in the second half considering they were putting us under a lot of pressure, but in the first half I think we dominated and we are looking ahead to the Cup Final on Tuesday so that’s why we took some players off towards the end.”

The Sky Blues’ boss also praised star player Milos Ninkovic for an outstanding performance in the contest, with the Serbian consistently one of the Sky Blues best.

Corica recognised just how integral the No.10 is to the success of the club moving forward and the calibre of player he is.

“He’s a quality player Ninko, I think he’s the best in the league,” he said.

“He’s a fantastic player, he’s so great for the club and right now he’s really enjoying his football which is important for him and for us.”

Sydney FC now look forward to Tuesday night’s FFA Cup Final against Adelaide United at Coopers Stadium, before returning to Hyundai A-League fixtures next week when they take on Melbourne City at AAMI Park next Friday night.
