On Tuesday afternoon, Anas Ouahim was announced to Sydney FC fans as the first outfield player signing under Ufuk Talay and after speaking to the press on day one, supporters have the right to be excited.
Talay is known for having a very intense pressing style and Ouahim was scouted by Head of Player Management, Alex Baumjohann for his pressing and ability on the ball and appears to fit the Sky Blue style perfectly.
Upon arriving and having a few days to settle into the country, Ouahim explained to the press that he has never had a feeling like it when moving to a new club.
“I have come here to play. I have come here to give everything and help the team win games.
“The people in Australia are amazing, very open people, very nice,” he said.
“I’ve never had a feeling like this when I’ve joined a club.”
After the club showed interest, Anas Ouahim did more research on the Isuzu UTE A-League building on his already learned knowledge and knew that the club was the perfect fit for him.
“Sydney is one of, if not the biggest club in Australia.”
“When I spoke to the Head Coach and spoke about the club and me as a player and how they want to make me a better player and person, it was not difficult for me to decide to come here,” Ouahim said.
“I really wanted to come here because they analysed me and saw that I am a good player when pressing and because they knew I was a good person, and I am glad that they know what they are looking for.”
The goal for the 26-year-old will be to make his debut in the Australia Cup against Oakleigh Cannons with the date set for the 30th of July for that match.
Ouahim has three weeks to get up to speed with the fitness, game-plan and he is looking to play that attacking midfielder role.
“My position is as a number 10 so I hope that they will play me there but I’m the player and I will respect any decision the coach makes.
“The players are so open here and I’ve never seen something like it,” the attacking midfielder added.
“I believe that is how you are successful, because you have to be a family on the pitch and I think from my early observations, they are doing that well.
“I have seen that they won the cup last year and if we are successful, it can be a really nice time at this club.
“When I saw the stadium for the first time I got goosebumps to be honest. I have seen it on videos but I didn’t expect it to be so big and beautiful. I can’t wait to play here.”
