Sydney FC young-gun Shadeene Evans says she’s looking to break into the tough Westfield W-League starting line-up following her maiden Sky Blues goal in Sunday’s #BigBlue.

The 18-year-old came off the bench for the final five minutes of the contest and netted her first ever Westfield W-League goal in the 3-0 win.

“It was an amazing moment, scoring your first goal for the club and celebrating with the rest of the team,” she said.

“To come off the bench and score is what every player wants, especially if it’s your first one.

“We have a very tough team. I want to be starting at some point this year but it will be tough,” she said.

Evans has recently finished school and says she can now focus on improving her skills at training.

“I’ll be going back into training with full focus, working very hard and working towards each game.

“I’m always telling myself to work hard and to score as many goals as I can in training and putting the effort there.

“Then at the end of the day, that will show on the field with me playing better and scoring more goals there too,” she said.

Although it was a great personal achievement, the Young Matilda praised the support her team has given her throughout her time with Sydney FC.

“Just to go out and play with such a great team is such a big thing for me.

“It’s about putting in the effort, and our whole team always puts that in,” she added.

Sydney FC take on Adelaide United in Round 2 of the W-League this Friday 22nd November (kick off 7:30pm AEDT).
