Hyundai A-League Champions Sydney FC have promoted three young players from the club’s best ever National Premier League campaign for their upcoming title defence.
Teenagers Marco Tilio (18), Harry Van Der Saag (19) and Ryan Teague (17) have all signed professional contracts and will link up with the Sky Blues Hyundai A-League squad throughout the 2019/20 season.
The three have featured recently as part of Sydney FC’s pre-season campaign with Tilio and Teague also starring for the Young Socceroos and Joeys respectively.
Head Coach Steve Corica believes all three will add quality to the squad.
“They are all excellent young players with a great deal of potential,” he said.
“They’ve each performed very well in pre-season and during their record breaking NPL season.
“We’ve got a fantastic crop of young players and it was tough to pick just three for these contracts.
“With increased exposure to A-League training loads and physicality, I believe these boys can make the step up.”
18-year old attacking midfielder Tilio hit a hat-trick against Vietnam in the recent AFF Under-18 Youth Championship, which the Young Socceroos went on to win; while 17-year old number six Teague has captained the Joey’s for a number of years.
Van Der Saag, a versatile 19-year old who can play full back or further up the pitch, made his first start in a Sydney FC senior side against Paris Saint Germain last month where he came up against French World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe and put in an impressive showing.
Sydney FC’s National Premier League squad had their most impressive season to date, securing a record points tally since elevation to the first division with its youngest ever squad.
