Sydney FC Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo is looking forward to returning to familiar surroundings when the Sky Blues travel to Melbourne City on Saturday, with the focus firmly on building momentum after last weekend’s win.
The Sky Blues have quickly turned their attention to the next challenge, with Kisnorbo expecting a tough test against his former club at AAMI Park.
“It’s been great. Pretty much after the game, we started preparing for tomorrow’s game against Melbourne City and we look forward to the challenge,” Kisnorbo said.
Despite City’s early-season results, Kisnorbo insists his side will not underestimate the opposition.

“We know that Melbourne are a strong team, regardless of where they are or the games they’ve played. We know that every team is strong, including them, but the main focus is ourselves.”
Sunday Rewarded for Hard Work
Kisnorbo was full of praise for Oriola Sunday following his first Sydney FC goal last weekend, highlighting the forward’s work ethic as one of the qualities he values most.
Sunday was rewarded for his efforts with a goal following an excellent attacking move involving Akol Akon and Al Hassan Toure, earning himself Man of the Match honours after a big shift up front.
“For me, the biggest thing for him is his work ethic. Last week he gets rewarded with a goal, but again, for me it’s his work ethic and him as a person that we really like at this club,” Kisnorbo said.
The Head Coach also highlighted the collective effort behind Sydney FC’s defensive performances, stressing that every player has a role to play at both ends of the pitch.
“We always defend from the front and attack from the back. Everyone has a part to play in that, not just the back four and the goalkeeper. Everyone has to work for the team.”
A Special Third Kit
Saturday’s match will also see the Sky Blues wear their new third kit, dedicated to The Cove and the supporters who have stood by the club since its early days.
Kisnorbo believes the jersey is a fitting tribute to the fans and their contribution to Sydney FC.
“It’s a special thing to have something like that and to wear a significant top that shows all their support and all the ups and downs they’ve supported the club through,” he said.
“I would feel very proud to wear a top like this. I’m very honoured, and we’re lucky to have the supporters that we do.”
