Sydney FC new signing Jordy Buijs says he’ll have no problems fitting into the undefeated Sky Blues squad following his arrival to Australia, with the centre back declaring himself a ‘winner’.
The towering centre half enjoyed his first training session under Head Coach Graham Arnold on Tuesday, and Buijs vowed to repay Arnold’s faith in him while also likening the Sky Blues to Dutch giants Feyenoord FC.
“This is a very good opportunity for me, I’m very happy,” Buijs said following his arrival.
“The first thing I hear about Sydney FC was that they’re a family club so I brought my family straight away with me. I’m a winner and the club wins a lot of times so we have a lot together I think.
“Sydney FC is one of the best clubs in Australia, the A-League is starting to grow up, it’s getting bigger and more interesting for players from outside and I think it’s a good league.
“I played in the youth of Feyenoord, for me the biggest club in Holland. We played everytime on the pitch of the away team and we won a lot and for me it’s a little bit the same [to the situation at Sydney FC now] only adult football.
“Pressure is every time at every club,” he continued.
“When I feel the pressure I’m at my best so I need this. I think it’s good for professional football players to have this pressure.
“The link [between myself and Graham Arnold] was very easy because he [Graham Arnold] also played for NAC Breda in Holland.
“He’s seen me playing so the connection was close and he gave me a good feeling. Now I need to give him something back on the field.”
Offering Sydney FC Members and fans an insight into his game, Buijs agreed that he was a ball playing centre back and vowed to impress with his set piece abilities.
“I am a ball playing centre back I think,” he said.
“I like to play in from behind, build up to the front and to coach and help my players and to organise everything so there’s no balls in my goal.
“This is two big things I have and I hope you can see also In a couple of games that my free kicks and set pieces are good.
“I feel good with my set pieces, they’re good and strong and hopefully we can score from this part but my first priority is defending.”
