Sydney FC defender Teigen Allen has been named Sydney’s Junior Sports Star of the year.
Sydney FC defender Teigen Allen has been named Sydney-s Junior Sports Star of the year.
The talented 15-year-old was named winner of the prestigious Cumberland Courier Medal in front of Sydney-s elite junior sports stars at ANZ Stadium on Tuesday 2 March.
“I-m overwhelmed. I really appreciate it,” Teigen said as she accepted her award, before going on to thank her parents for supporting her sporting endeavours.
On top of being part of Sydney FC-s championship winning W-League side, Allen was recognized for the achievements on the international stage which includes overseas tours with the U17 national team and the under-20s Young Matildas sides.
The Cumberland Courier Junior Sports Star award recognises the best of Sydney-s junior sporting talent and has helped propel winners to achieve their sporting dreams and aspirations.
Past winners have included swimmer Kenneth To, cricket and soccer player Ellyse Perry, gymnast Kimberly Mason and discus thrower Dani Samuels.
Cumberland Courier Newspapers Editor-in-Chief Bob Osburn said he was honoured to be associated with a medal that recognised people who would be part of Australia-s future sporting history.
Mr Osburn said Allen-s outstanding achievements, at such a young age, made her an obvious choice for this year-s medal.
“To have achieved so much so young shows a rare maturity and flags a very promising future in the sport,” he said.
“Teigen is a worthy award winner and an excellent ambassador for youth sport in Sydney.”
Teigen-s achievements were all the more impressive given she sat for her school certificate while in Thailand on national soccer duties.
