Mason-Jones grateful after Sky Blues debut

Hear from Mason-Jones following her debut

Beth Mason-Jones has pulled on the Sydney FC jersey for the first time in Sunday’s 2-1 loss to Western United.

The shot stopper has been through a hard road to get to where she is and rediscovered her form with a stint with the Essendon Royals in the Victorian NPL and now she made her first Ninja A-League appearance since 2019 on Sunday.

Having come through that path, she is now thankful for the opportunity that has presented itself once again.

“It is amazing. I have a bit of a tremor right now because I can’t really describe what it’s taken for me to get here.

“I am so grateful that I have gotten this opportunity to play in the A-League again and I am not taking it lightly,” Mason-Jones said.

“Sydney is such a big club and they expect the best from us and we really tried to give 110% today and we just couldn’t get the result in the end.”

Mason-Jones highlighted her debut with a brilliant penalty save in the second half.

She denied Chloe Logarzo and while speaking to Paramount+, she revealed it was important about her research.

Mason-Jones saved a penalty and tipped one onto the bar on her debut.

“As a keeper you don’t want to leave anything to luck and I knew she was going to make me wait and I thought to myself that I am not going to let her get into my head.

“At the end of the day I just back myself and I’m like, yep that’s the way the ball is going and that is where I am going.

“We’re gonna keep fighting hard and you know, never say never.”

Finally, she delved into what made her time in the Victorian NPL so special and how it helped her come out of it as a better player.

“I just stripped everything back. I went to play State football after I was at Canberra United and taking all that pressure away has really helped out.

“I helped me realise why I really love football and I am really grateful to Essendon Royals for helping me re-find that love.

“The season isn’t over but we’re gonna come out each week and keep fighting and fight for this badge because this is the club to be at in Australia.”
