Millie Farrow returned from injury to net her first goal in Sky Blue on Friday night against Adelaide United.
It was quite the scene at Leichhardt Oval as the small boutique venue erupted with Farrow’s stoppage time equaliser, however their hearts were broken late on with a winner from their South Australian visitors.
This Sunday they host Western United and with only nine games remaining until the end of the season and the team know that they need to give it their all to make the top six.
“We’re definitely going through it a little bit at the moment but we believe in each other and the fact we were so close to getting the points shows how much we’re building on what we’re trying to do.
“You can see the belief in the squad and the team especially in the last 30 minutes of that game,” Farrow said.
“There’s still a chance for us to make it into the finals and until it’s not mathematically possible then we’re going to give absolutely everything until we get there.”
The Sky Blues currently sit in 11th place on 10 points with the top six securing finals football.
If Ante Juric’s team want to get there, they must make up an 11 point gap from 6th place Western United who they face on Sunday afternoon at Leichhardt Oval.
And with every point critical, the English striker was quick to highlight the amazing backing that her side have received this season at home.
“They [the home fans] are always in full voice at Leichhardt, The Cove especially, plus everyone in the stands and on the hill.
“The fact that they are staying behind us and sticking with us is so amazing and we definitely hear them through the game,” she continued.
“We really appreciate it and the fact that we have fans like this that keep coming back and supporting us is just special.”
Farrow netted her first of the season on Friday’s clash and now that her first goal has found the net, she is keen to kick into another gear.
“This is my first season at Sydney FC and it’s been very frustrating coming in and having a few injuries so I don’t feel like I’ve been able to impact the team as much as I’ve wanted to.
“This was a step in the right direction with the equalising goal and coming back but we need to do better next week for the entire match.
“Having scored my first goal, the monkey is off the back now so hopefully now I can keep scoring and help get the team some points on the board,” she concluded.
