We’ve taken the unfortunate decision to postpone this afternoon’s Big Blue double header against Melbourne Victory following the torrential rain which has hit Sydney in the last 12 hours causing a waterlogged surface at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.
With over 100 millimetres of rain falling and a lot more expected in the coming hours, the pitch is in an unplayable condition forcing the postponement.
Sydney FC Chief Executive Officer Danny Townsend explains: “We are desperately disappointed to have to postpone these games, but we have been left with little choice.
“As a spectacle for our members and all football fans, any game played on the pitch in its current condition would not be satisfactory, particularly with the standards the A-League and Westfield W-Leagues have set this season. There is also the issue of player safety to consider.
“Both games will be re-arranged as soon as possible, especially our Westfield W-League match where we had a fantastic chance to claim the first piece of silverware of the season.
“I’d like to thank our Members and fans, and those of Melbourne Victory who travelled for their understanding; as well as Georges River Council for their efforts to stage the match.
“We’ll be in touch with our Members and ticket purchasers shortly regarding details for the re-arranged matches.”
Please stay tuned for updates in your Members newsletter and on our social media accounts regarding the re-scheduling of both games.
We are working with Melbourne Victory, the Australian Professional Leagues and all other stakeholders to re-schedule both matches at the earliest possible date and will be in touch.
