Young Sky Blues Cruise To Big Win

Sydney FC’s Foxtel National Youth League side cruised to a comfortable 4-0 win over Canberra United in their Round 3 fixture at Lambert Park on Saturday.

A pair of goals in either half paved the way for the young Sky Blues to make it two wins from two hames following a bye last week.

Luke Ivanovic nabbed a brace in the opening period as he struck after less than five minutes on the clock with some nice combo play on the edge of the penalty area before slotting home for a 1-0 lead.

Then on the stroke of half time he struck again from a direct free kick which went through the defensive wall and the despairing dive of the Canberra keeper for a 2-0 cushion at the break.

Sydney FC continued to pile on the pressure in the second half and doubled their advantage soon after the resumption.

On 54 minutes Hamish Lamberton cut into the box and curled his shot inside the far post for 3-0 and just two minutes later, centre half Ben Van Meurs tapped in at the far post from a corner kick to make it 4-0.

Sam McIllhatton came close to making it five but his effort from 25 metres out crashed against the cross bar and bounced to safety.

The Sky Blues controlled the contest through to the final whistle to stay top of the FYL ladder.

Next Sunday sees the youth derby take place when Sydney FC come up against Western Sydney Wanderers at Lambert Park, Leichhardt 10:30am kick off.
