Young Sydney FC prospect Luke Ivanovic has today re-signed with the club for another season.
The 18-year old, who scored his first goal within ten minutes of his Sky Blues’ starting debut this season, extends his stay at the club until June 2020.
The forward has made his way through the Sydney FC youth team and into the Hyundai A-League squad in remarkable fashion, playing 18 games in the 2018 Sky Blues National Premier League side before joining Steve Corica’s men.
He now has 11 Hyundai A-League appearances as well as three games in the AFC Champions League, and is expected to be a player to watch in the coming seasons after bursting onto the scene this year.
Ivanovic is excited to confirm his future at the club for another season, and credits Sydney FC for his continued development as a footballer in recent times.
“I’m over the moon to be able to extend my stay at Sydney FC for one more season after getting my debut towards the end of last year,” he said.
“It’s been an absolute dream come true to pull on the Sky Blue jersey, and I’m really enjoying playing in the Hyundai A-League after coming through the ranks here in the Academy system.
“Steve and the club have shown a lot of faith in me and getting the chance to play half a dozen games and get my first goal for the club has been awesome.
“I really hope that I can continue to play good football for Sydney FC in the coming seasons and repay the faith that they have shown in me.”
Head Coach Steve Corica praised the continued rise of the youngster and his dedication to improving his football in recent months.
“Luke has come a long way in a short space of time and I’ve been impressed with his progress,” he said.
“He’s becoming a valued member of our squad and the boys all really enjoy having him around.
“It’s always great to be able to give young players an opportunity and Luke has earned his spot.
“He knows that he has to continue to work hard for his spot and I have plenty of faith in him doing this for the rest of this season.”
At just 18 years of age, Ivanovic is the 2nd youngest player in the current Sydney FC Hyundai A-League side and being born in the year 2000, became the first player born this century to represent the Sky Blues.
