On the eve of the Westfield W-League season, Sydney FC have signed one of the hottest prospects in women’s football.
United States international Savannah McCaskill has joined the club for the Westfield W-League 2018/19 season and is set to make her debut in tonight’s opener against Western Sydney Wanderers at Marconi Stadium (7.30 kick off).
The 22-year old forward finished runner-up in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) Rookie of the Year selection and has made six appearances for the US national team after making her debut in January.
The Sky Blue FC number 10 joins on loan and is looking forward to getting stuck into her Australian adventure.
“I am absolutely overjoyed to be coming to Australia and to be playing for Sydney FC this season,” she said.
“I’m extremely excited by the prospect of playing with such a talented group of players and from what I have experienced so far, I think we have a squad capable of winning the competition.
“Everyone has been really welcoming and I am excited to be getting going so soon.
“It is going to a fantastic occasion to start in a Sydney Derby and to be playing in Sky Blue is a bonus for me too.”
Head Coach Ante Juric believes the club has picked up one of the signings of the season.
“Savannah is a fantastic talent and an even better person from what I’ve noted to date,” he said
“She fits perfectly into our club’s drive for high standards and to the ‘club first’ culture we are continuing to build here at Sydney FC.
“It also demonstrates as a club we are only looking at bringing world class foreigners to this team who will make a difference to the standard of the W League and at the same time help develop our youngsters in the squad.
“It’s a perfect mix for today and for the club’s future years.
“She has had an incredible first season playing in the NWSL and I have no doubt she will have a major impact for us and quickly become a fan favourite in no time.
“When Savannah’s availability came to our attention, there was no hesitation and we wanted her to put on this famous Sky Blue shirt.
“She will add to our team’s attacking mentality perfectly, where we simply want to attack with freedom and positivity. She gives us something different alongside DeVanna, Foord and Ibini which excites me from a coaching viewpoint.”
Sydney FC’s first home W-League game comes in the Hyundai A-League double header against Melbourne Victory on Sunday 25th November at Jubilee Stadium (kick off 2.30pm).
