Gallant Sky Blues Downed Late

Gallant Sky Blues Downed Late

Sydney FC went close to a first win of the season leading 2-1 before Canberra United rallied late to win 3-2 on Sunday in Westfield W-League Round 3 action.

A gallant Sky Blues battled back after conceding early to dictate periods of play however a pair of Kylie Ledbrook penalties wasn’t enough for all three points.

Michelle Heyman bagged a match-winning brace as Canberra United got off the mark over Sydney FC.

Trailing 2-1 in the 70th minute, the home side rallied late and found an equaliser through Toni Pressley.

And Heyman – who had opened the scoring in the first half – then fired in an 83rd minute winner to complete a stunning fightback in Ashleigh Sykes’ 100th Westfield W-League appearance.

Sydney FC return to Allianz Stadium next Saturday to face Melbourne City in a double header clash at home.
