In our ‘Where Are They Now’ series we’ll be taking a look back at some of our past players and hearing from them as they provide an update on what they’re up to these days.

This week, we heard from former Sky Blue Championship winner Reza Ghoochannejhad as he hosted a live Facebook chat on Tuesday night.

Ghoochannejhad joined the Sky Blues in January 2019, on loan from Cypriot club APOEL FC, becoming the first Iranian to ply his trade in the Hyundai A-League.

The Iranian star featured 11 times for the Sky Blues, playing his part in guiding the club to the 2019 Hyundai A-League Grand Final, scoring his only goal in the competition at home against Adelaide United in a 2-0 win.

Although listed as a substitute for the decider, Ghoochannejhad would seal his place in Sydney FC folklore as he score the decisive penalty in the shootout in Perth to seal a record-equaling fourth Hyundai A-League Championship.

Hear from Reza Ghoochannejhad:

“At the moment I’m in Holland, playing for PEC Zwolle, but unfortunately we’re on lockdown right now waiting for the new season to start.

“It went so quick last year [my time in Sydney], it was like yesterday when we played that final. I’m very happy to have been a part of that team that won final and that will go down in history.”
